"When adding the host into Virtual Machine Manager, make sure you use the FQDN " >> you cannot add a FQDN because durign the scvmm agent installation you can only add the IP or local netbios (shortname) of the computer.
Then when you add the host on the scvmm server if you choose to use the FQDN le host installation failed with an error of mismatch between the FQDN write and the netbios name encoded in the encrypted key.
Please tests completly you're procedure before to post them...

Not quite sure I agree with your assessment that some IT folks who want to turn this off are "out of touch". Some of us have good reason to turn it off - like running Outlook in a Terminal Services environment where this can easily consume a host server's resources when spread across multiple user sessions. I'm just saying.
